DNA replication is the synthesis of identical DNA strands from a parent molecule. The double helix is unzipped and each resulting single strand becomes a template for the enzyme DNA polymerase, which adds complementary nucleotides as dictated by the existing DNA strand.

This animation, which shows DNA replication and the interactions of the various enzymes, can be used to illustrate to students the order of events in DNA replication, as well as emphasize which enzymes are involved in the process.
