From the Editor

Spring arrives with a hint of more to come. For this issue of Focus on Microbiology Education, we offer a chance to take an adventure on a Microbe Safari. If you remember the excitement of looking at pond water the first time, you can bring that excitement to your students with this helpful exercise. Check out the article by Carol Wake, Susan Gibson, and JoAnn Willgohs. Your students will have a chance not only to enjoy the results of their trophy hunts but also to be able to identify many of the critters that they find. The information is available to download, and away you go.

Ken Teter and Heather Engelking provide us with an article on helping your students find careers after they leave your classroom and institution. They have developed a seminar series on Career Opportunities in the Biomedical Sciences for their students. Their article may provide you with ideas to organize a similar series on your campus.

Colorado State University, Fort Collins, Colorado, is the site of this year’s American Society for Microbiology Conference for Undergraduate Educators. Jennifer Herzog has provided an overview of this year’s program. We look forward to seeing you there.

Journal Watch and Web Watch round out the issue. If you have ideas for future articles, please contact me or other members of the editorial board.

Enjoy!
