ASM Guidelines for Educational Materials Reviewers

Your review should be a critical analysis of the program.  It should be:

  • Scholarly

  • Fair and unbiased

Negative comments should be directed against the material content and not against the author(s).  If you are the author of a competing program, you may wish to be withdrawn as a reviewer to avoid any conflict of interest.

The review should be limited to 250 - 300 words in length.

The format should be as follows:

 I.         General Information

             Title of material(s), author(s)
             Publisher
             Date of copyright
             Number of material and price

II.        Target audience and purpose

Is the program designed for health professionals, precollege students, or employees in industries?  What is the software designed to do?  For example, is it a training program or an adjunct to classroom material.

 III.      Description

A short synopsis of the item.

 IV.       Level of presentation

V.         Strength(s)/Weakness(es)

 VI.       Recommendations

Did the program fulfill the stated objectives and, do you recommend purchasing the program?
