Atlas-Protocol Collection

Goal
The Atlas-Protocol Collection of the MicrobeLibrary was first envisioned at the 2004 ASM Conference for Undergraduate Educators (
ASMCUE). The collection has two components: the Atlas and the Protocol. The Atlas includes a series of images that support the learning and use of a standard microbiology protocol.  The Protocol includes information pertinent to teaching undergraduate microbiology.

The goal of the Atlas is to provide educators and students of microbiology a diversity of high quality images that illustrates the use, results and/or interpretation of a standard microbiology protocol. The Atlas is geared to all microbiologists-in-training, including students and faculty.

The goal of the Protocol is to provide microbiology educators standard information about a single protocol, including purpose and theory, history, procedural steps, safety considerations, tips and comments, and references. The Protocol is geared for microbiology educators at all levels and assumes that one has a basic understanding of general microbiology.

Submission Instructions and Review Criteria

Current Inventory
As of September 2008, there are 23 Atlas-Protocol Projects published in the MicrobeLibrary. The number of images associated with each project is expected to grow each year as new submissions are added. At present, there are 632 images within the 23 projects.
