A Gram stain of Bacillus subtilis viewed using a bright-field microscope at a magnification of ´1,000. The source of the organism is usually found in the soil. This is a good example of a gram-positive rod-shaped organism. This image would help a student to visualize the morphology of a rod-shaped bacterium and may be useful in helping students identify a bacterial unknown.
