Moving On - Farewell from the Editor
For the last several years, I have had the great pleasure of editing Focus on Microbiology Education (FOME). My tenure in this capacity began after just one year on the editorial committee, and began with great enthusiasm but little experience. With the help and encouragement of numerous ASM staff and the members of the editorial board, the learning curve became manageable, and more importantly, the issues got published. I found that I really love working with authors to craft great articles, and if there is an editor’s version of “empty nest syndrome”, I am having it now.

During my time as editor, FOME has undergone many changes, the major one being the switch from paper to online publication. This change has afforded us the opportunity to publish longer, more in-depth articles and to publish sets of articles around a common theme. We have solicited articles for these issues, often on short notice, and have been thankful to find so many gracious people willing to help us out. We also accept unsolicited articles, and many times these have served as an inspiration for the theme of future issues.

The future of FOME looks bright; it has a new, very able editor, Kelly Cowan, who I know from experience, will be very grateful for ideas for future issues and for any articles you send her way. So, I encourage you all to welcome her and to join in helping to keep FOME the valuable resource it is.
