From the Editor
The Fall 2003 issue of Focus on Microbiology Education finds us in the midst of a heightened awareness of the possibilities of bioterrorism and biowarfare. Last May’s 103rd ASM General Meeting featured this topic prominently, as did the Undergraduate Education conference, and a new annual biodefense conference sponsored by ASM. This issue features reports from all three of these venues, as well as a description of a brand new training program in bioterrorism preparedness pioneered by Alice Agasan at Hunter College in New York City. And don’t miss the Nuts and Bolts article about safety in the teaching laboratory, a must-read in the present era of increasing enforcement.

This issue also includes our usual "Web Watch" and "Journal Watch" features, and we’d like to welcome our new "Journal Watch" contributor, Kathleen Jagger. Given the Bioterrorism theme of this issue, I can’t really say "Enjoy!", but I know you’ll find the articles useful.
