From the Editor
This issue is focused on classroom assessment. In the biological sciences, we are lucky to have as colleagues some of the leading scholars in the area of assessment. Two of them, Virginia Anderson and Spencer Benson, share their experiences and advice in articles this month.

In addition to being an important tool for learning, assessment is one of the foundational parts of the scholarship of pedagogy. This issue also contains a short article about a Carnegie Foundation product called the KEEP toolkit, which can help with both kinds of assessment, as well as with presentations and other necessary tasks in the scholarship of teaching and learning.

And of course, we’ll have a report from the 11th annual ASM Conference for Undergraduate Educators. The full text of the annual report is available online at http://www.asmcue.org/highlights/index.asp, and in this issue of FOME we feature highlights from the “Best Practices” session, always a favorite.
