Get Involved

The ASM Education Board's programs provide venues for microbiologists to publish education resources, network and share ideas, and support each other to increase student understanding of microbiology.  The MicrobeLibrary is a community-driven initiative and all microbiology educators are encouraged to get involved to insure that the resources meet the needs of the community.

Tell Us What You Think

Do you use the ASM's MicrobeLibrary? If so, you are invited to tell us what you think and how we can make MicrobeLibrary better for you! Send comments and suggestions to microbelibrary@asmusa.org.

MICROEDU

Join this discussion group representing 1500+ individuals committed to excellence in undergraduate education.  The purpose of the discussion group is to facilitate communication about issues important to undergraduate and graduate microbiology education.  Visit the following website and follow the instructions to subscribe to MICROEDU:

ASM's Conference for Undergraduate Educators (ASMCUE)

ASM sponsors an annual four day forum for undergraduate faculty providing scientific and education professional development through plenary sessions, discussion groups, posters, and exhibits.  The sessions provide forums for curriculum development and assessment, programs for faculty to keep abreast with evolving content and resources, encouragement to faculty to incorporate hands-on laboratory experiences, and an opportunity for active communication and new connections to be made among microbiology faculty. Travel grants are available for both ASM members and non-members. Visit www.ASMCUE.org.

Biology Scholars Program Research Residency (Formally ASMSIR)

ASM is one of the first disciplinary societies to recognize research in learning having established the Biology Scholars Program Research Residency.  The initiative is an outgrowth of the ASM Conference for Undergraduate Educators (ASMCUE).

This year-long residency program seeks to develop faculties' ability to conduct evidence-based research in microbiology learning.  At the completion of the residency, faculty members will:

·        Develop a hypothesis to explore student learning in microbiology

·        Design an experiment using their classes to test the hypothesis

·        Identify existing resources regularly used to assess student learning

·        Understand methods of collecting and interpreting data used to measure student learning

·        Understand IRB requirements for conducting research on students

·        Identify appropriate venues for publishing their research

The program begins with a Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) Institute at ASM Headquarters in Washington, DC in July each year.  Space is limited to 16 Scholars.  Visit www.biologyscholars.org.
